Religion is supposed to bring us together, teach us to love and be good, bind mortal and immortal and create oneness. But really, all that it does is tear us apart. People who have strong opinions about their religion will put down others for their beliefs, because they feel it is their duty to teach what is the "right" religion and what is the "wrong" religion. Not everyone does this, but some people feel that they have to get into everyone's business and be the supreme ruler of right and wrong. I, personally, am an atheist, and I don't care if you believe in millions of gods, one, or none. But that's just me. And there are a ton of people out there who feel the same, whether they are Christians, Muslims, Jews, or any other religion. But there are just some people who feel that they must get on someone about who or what they believe in, just pushing their religion in that person's face! I experienced this just last night, attending the Starlight Parade in Portland, Ore., where I was vacationing.
Okay, so the parade hadn't started yet, and we were just relaxing, getting coffee, and waiting. And then, a group of people who were of the Christian faith came down the street, bearing signs that said, "JESUS IS OUR SAVIOR" and "JESUS DIED FOR YOU!" This part, only irked me a little, because they were kind of pushing their religion at you, but then again they were just showing how proud they were with their religion, so I didn't really mind. But then, they started handing out these pieces of paper. On the front, it appeared to be a "million dollar bill". Then, I flipped it over, and on the back was writing. The first sentence I don't quite remember, but within it were the words, "are you good enough to go to heaven?" That made me mad! It sounded like they were asking not if you were a good person, but if God considered you worthy enough. Then it told you not to lie anymore, because you are lying to God. This also made me mad, because guess what? We are human! All. Humans. Lie. Then it went on about how you shouldn't steal and you shouldn't murder (no dur!) Now, the last thing that I read was this: If you hated someone, then God considered you a murderer. I was so mad, my friend had to take it away from me. How would they know how God though? It is not the Christian religion that I'm mad at, it is this specific group that made me mad for saying this. I have nothing against the religion, just what they said and implied. I just needed to vent
